MANNY PACQUIAO's 'Kumbinasyon' Column - Matthew 28:20 - Oct. 25, 2009

"Kumbinasyon"

By Manny Pacquiao

MATEO 28:20

PhilBoxing.com

25 Oct 2009

MANILA — Good morning, good afternoon and good evening to all of my fans, friends and all those who read this column, wherever you may be. I hope all of you are fine, healthy and happy. If you are going to ask me how I am, I think I am quite ready to fight next week although there are still three more weeks and a lot of work to do before I step into the ring.

Likewise, I could even hardly speak English back then.

God Bless Us All.

PACQUIAO Doesn't Know What a Steroid Looks Like, Denies FLOYD MAYWEATHER SR.'s Steroid Accusations - Sept. 17, 2009

Manny Pacquiao arrived early morning today here in the Philippines to get ready for the start of his traning at Baguio city for his fight against Miguel Cotto on Nov. 14, 2009.

Upon interview at the NAIA, Manny Pacquiao says he doesn't even know what a steroid looks like. He denies that he uses some power enhancing substance.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. recently accuses Manny Pacquiao of using steroids to have an edge over much bigger opponents.

Manny Pacquiao has already talked with his lawyer, Atty. Gacal on possible legal action against Mayweather Sr.

BOXING FANS, LET'S BOYCOTT the MAYWEATHER-MARQUEZ SEPTEMBER 19 Fight

By Greg R. Penilla, M.D.

Wed, 16 Sep 2009

The repetitive blows to the head of Floyd Mayweather Sr. have inevitably mashed his brain. The speech impediment is an obvious sign. It will not be surprising that in future TV interviews, there will be subtitles to help viewers understand him.

Even before the very first hit to his head, Floyd Sr, was not expected to articulate a scholarly dissertation but with his recent accusation that Manny Pacquiao is using a performance enhancing substance clearly shows that his intellectual capacity has reached nadir. There are no more neurons left to exercise any rational thought process. The space between his ears has become a vast wasteland akin to the day after a nuclear blast.

But is it really just the blows to the head? Or is it in the DNA. Even the most level- headed of the Mayweathers, Jeff, seems to give credence to the outrageous allegation.

If there is any performance enhancing substance Pacquiao is taking, it must be the world infamous balut. No need to explain, just Google it.

The Mayweathers are hitting below the belt. Boxing fans and specially the formidable Pacquiao fans worldwide, the Mayweathers can be hit where it hurts the most, the pocketbook.

Manny Pacquiao "Kumbinasyon" Huwag Pong Mabahala Sept. 6, 2009

"Kumbinasyon"
By Manny Pacquiao
Huwag Pong Mabahala

Huwag po kayong mabahala, everything is under control.

God Bless Us All.

MANNY PACQUIAO will start training for MIGUEL COTTO Fight - Sept. 7, 2009

It will be the last shooting day for the Pacman tomorrow Sept. 8, 2009 and after that he will start training for his upcoming fight against Puerto Rico's Miguel Cotto in Nov. 14, 2009.

Manny Pacquiao is still finishing all his showbiz commitments. Manny had just finished two movies 'Wapakman' and 'Pangarap Kong Jackpot' and on his last day of taping of the season one of the TV sit-com 'Show Me Da Manny'.

I just hope Manny Pacquiao knows what he's doing and doesn't put his upcoming fight lightly, Miguel Cotto isn't a pushover and the man from Puerto Rico means business because he has been training for a month now while the Pacman is busy making movies.

Walt Disney Co. and Marvel Entertainment Inc. Join Force

Walt Disney buys Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4 Billion! Wow

It's the kind of merger that would get DC Comics jealous and I am just happy about it. Anything Disney and anything Marvel are some of my favorite icons. Imagine seeing Wolverine, Spider-man, the Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man inside Disneyland theme parks. I am sure there would be a conflict of interests between theme parks of Disney and Universal Studios because some Marvel characters can be seen inside Universal Studios theme parks.
Some insiders say that Warner Bros. company who owns the DC character rights haven't done anything to push its DC characters to another level. I'd rather see Spider-man mingling with Mickey Mouse than Superman with Donald Duck. With the merger of Disney and Marvel expect wonders and amazing attractions to be unveiled in the future.

Disney buys Marvel for $4B

Spider-Man joins Mickey Mouse

WASHINGTON – The Walt Disney Co. added "Spider-Man," "Iron Man" and the "X-Men" to its vast cast of characters on Monday with a surprise agreement to buy Marvel Entertainment Inc. for some $4 billion.

The deal, Disney's biggest since its acquisition of animation house Pixar three years ago, will combine the comic book giant and its huge stable of action heroes with the entertainment empire of Mickey Mouse.

"Adding Marvel to Disney’s unique portfolio of brands provides significant opportunities for long-term growth and value creation," Disney president and chief executive Robert Iger said. "We are pleased to bring this talent and these great assets to Disney."

Disney and Marvel, in a joint statement, said that Marvel shareholders would receive a total of $30 per share in cash plus approximately 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they own.

It said that based on the closing price of Disney stock on Friday, the transaction value is $50 per Marvel share or approximately $4 billion.

Shares of Marvel soared 25.36 percent in New York and were trading at $48.45 near the close of trading. Disney shares were trading 2.61 percent lower at $26.14.

The deal, which caught analysts and the market by surprise, was announced shortly before the opening bell on Wall Street.

Besides "Spider-Man," "Iron Man" and the "X-Men," Marvel's cast of over 5,000 characters includes "Captain America," the "Fantastic Four" and "Thor."

Marvel chief executive Ike Perlmutter said Disney is "the perfect home for Marvel’s fantastic library of characters given its proven ability to expand content creation and licensing businesses.

"This is an unparalleled opportunity for Marvel to build upon its vibrant brand and character properties by accessing Disney’s tremendous global organization and infrastructure around the world," he said.

Disney and Marvel said Perlmutter would continue to oversee the Marvel properties, which include Marvel Studios, Marvel Animation and Marvel Comics.

Perlmutter will "work directly with Disney’s global lines of business to build and further integrate Marvel’s properties," their joint statement said.

Disney and Marvel said the boards of directors of both companies have approved the transaction but it still needs the green light from US anti-trust authorities and Marvel shareholders.

Iger said the companies hope to conclude the deal by the end of the year.

He compared the purchase of Marvel to Disney's 2006 acquisition of Pixar Animation for 7.4 billion dollars, saying it presents "similar opportunities."

Pixar is the San Francisco-area studio behind such hits such as "Toy Story," "A Bug's Life," "Finding Nemo," "Ratatouille," "WALL-E" and "Up."

The agreement drew a thumbs-up from most analysts.

"Strategically, we view Marvel as a good fit for Disney," said Hale Holden of Barclays Capital. "We expect Disney to drive synergies across the Marvel characters at its parks and cable networks."

Standard and Poor's announced however that it was putting Disney's long-term 'A' corporate credit rating and short-term 'A-1' rating on credit watch with negative implications.

"In our view, Disney may need to issue debt to supplement its cash for this transaction," the ratings company said.

Marvel is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. It was founded in 1939 as comic book publisher Timely Comics.

Besides comics, Marvel characters also feature in movies, animated features, videogames and toys such as action figures.

Corys funeral, a special non-working holiday, August 5, 2009

MANILA – MalacaƱang has declared Wednesday, Aug. 5, as a special non-working holiday in commemoration of the late former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino. The private funeral of Aquino will be held on Wednesday. She will be buried beside her late husband, Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. at the Manila Memorial Park. According to deputy presidential spokesperson Lorelei Fajardo, the declaration of Wednesday as a special non-working holiday will allow the nation to witness the moments before Aquino is brought to her final resting place, radio dzMM reported. A mass will be held at 9 a.m. at the Manila Cathedral before the burial. Fajardo earlier announced that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has cut short her United States trip in order to make it to Aquino’s funeral service on Wednesday. Arroyo will leave New York for Manila on Saturday (Sunday in the Philippines). The chief executive declared a 10-day period of national mourning (Aug. 1 to Aug. 10) over the death of Aquino through Proclamation No. 1850. Aquino, 76, succumbed to colon cancer on Saturday at 3:18 a.m. Her wake is at the La Salle Green Hills (LSGH) gymnasium in Mandaluyong City. The public viewing at LSGH began at 5 p.m. of Saturday and will continue until Monday. The daily viewing schedule will be until 4 a.m., and will resume at 7 a.m.

Google Voice - GV Mobile jailbroken iPhones only

Google Voice gives you one phone number for all your phones, voicemail as easy as email, and many calling features for free.

Source:Engadgets.com
So well-mannered, straight-laced iPhone users got a pretty big slap in the face yesterday by way of Apple's (and AT&T's, no doubt) total Google Voice rejection. Looks like jailbreakers are picking up the pieces, as GV Mobile developer Sean Kovacs -- whose app was in the iTunes store for some time before being yanked yesterday -- has ported the Voice client over to Cydia free of charge, although donations are gladly accepted. Even more interesting, but less concrete, Kovacs said he was already working on a web app version, possibly for submission to Palm's app catalog. No word on the fate of GVdialer, an app that was also unceremoniously pulled, but we wouldn't be surprised if it followed in similar footsteps.

Miguel Cotto (34 wins, 1 loss)

P4P Ranking: top 10
Age: 28
Hometown: Caguas, Puerto Rico
Height: 5 feet 7 inches
Weigh-in Weight: 145 lb.
Likely Fight Night Weight: 156 - 159 lb.
Reach: 67 inches

article source: Examiner.Com

The fight that most boxing fans anticipated is official. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum announced on Monday that IBO and Ring Magazine junior welterweight champion, and current top pound for pound fighter, Filipino Manny Pacquiao will face off against WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico. The two will meet on November 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas at an agreed 145 lb. maximum weight.
Pay-per-view sales on the fight should approach 1 million buys for the U.S. market.
Pacquiao vs. Cotto is a legitimate mega-fight, and should be one of the most anticipated clashes in recent years for several reasons.

First, the boxing community will be able to witness if Manny Pacquiao can continue to thrive and succeed in his heretofore impossible journey. Starting out at a mere 106 lb., the "Pacman" is vying for Cotto's welterweight belt. For Manny, that represents an astonishing 7th title in his 7th weight class. Among the all-time greats who have ever laced on the boxing gloves, no one in the entire history of the sport has ever attained such a feat (Oscar de la Hoya is the only other fighter to win 6 titles in 6 weight classes). Not Muhammad Ali. Not Rock Marciano. Not Roberto Duran. Not Jack Dempsey.

Secondly, Miguel Cotto represents a formidable challenge for the former flyweight Pacquiao. Cotto is a legitimate welterweight, and may weigh in as big as 160 lb. come fight night on November 14. And this is a weight range that he is most comfortable in. The Puerto Rican has previously defeated highly respected fighters in Shane Mosley, Joshua Clottey, Zab Judah, Carlos Quintana, and Ricardo Torres. Carlos Quintana is the only boxer to have defeated 6 foot 1 inch Paul Williams, who possesses an 82" reach. In short, Cotto has defeated boxing stars in his climb to the top.

The third reason why this is a mega-event? Both Pacquiao and Cotto are heroes in their respective homelands. Cotto is regarded as one of Puerto Rico's best boxers, following in the lofty standards set forth by the great Felix Trinidad, and his fan base is augmented by general boxing fans that like his brawling and attack style. Pacquiao on the other hand has elevated himself to national hero status at home, but also as an international superstar. His impossible journey, starting out as a homeless boxing aspirant, continues.

PSP GO redesigned no more umd disc

Named the PSP Go, the new machine is smaller than the current PSP and conceals its control buttons with a sliding panel. It sports a 3.8" screen, 16 GB of on-board memory, and Bluetooth connectivity, and is substantially lighter than the current model.

But perhaps the biggest change is the removal of the PSP's much-criticized UMD optical drive, which added bulk to the system and reduced battery life. Instead of buying games on disk from stores, PSP Go owners will download them straight to the machine's internal memory, in a manner very similar to the iPhone's App Store.
Heres video

Don't expect the loss of UMD to lower the price, though: the Go will be $249 when it launches on October 1 in North America and Europe and November 1 in Japan. Sony's showing demo videos with both black and white versions, but that's not confirmed yet

MANNY PACQUIAO's Star-Studded Victory Party at the CONGA ROOM in LOS ANGELES - Videos Aired May 6, 2009

The boxer known as 'Pac-Man' follows his Hatton knockout by singing in downtown L.A. -- after the Laker game, of course. Why not? He's already released a couple of singles in the Philippines.

By Yvonne Villarreal
May 6, 2009

Manny "Pac-Man" Pacquiao may be called the world's top pound-for-pound boxer, especially after a second-round knockout victory against Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton over the weekend in Las Vegas. But Monday night he was, pound-for-pound, the greatest singer in the world -- at least to some of those in attendance at the Conga Room in downtown Los Angeles to celebrate his victory.

"Tonight he can sing all night," trainer Freddie Roach said at the event benefiting the Manny Pacquiao Foundation, which supports underprivileged individuals in the Philippines. "You fight hard, you get to have fun . . . but not too much."

Projection screens in the Latin-infused nightclub showed boxing footage of Pacquiao as hundreds crowded the floor in anticipation of the International Boxing Organization and Ring magazine's world junior-welterweight champion. With Pacquiao scheduled to sing at 9 p.m., some drank and others danced as they waited. And waited.

But the 30-year-old Filipino boxing superstar was late to his own party because, like many Angelenos on Monday night, he was watching the Lakers take on the Houston Rockets in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series -- just across the way from the Conga Room, in the crowd at Staples Center.

It wasn't long before fans -- some wearing shirts with Pacquiao's face emblazoned on them -- began chanting, "Manny! Manny! Manny!" By 11:30 p.m., the People's Champion (another of his many nicknames) had arrived. His first stop: the stage.

Outfitted in a cream-colored suit jacket and jeans, and surrounded by his entourage and fans, Pacquiao grabbed a mike and unleashed his vocal flair -- no match for his powerful left hook, but still displayed on numerous YouTube videos -- alongside Filipino singer Lito Camo. A sea of brightly lighted cellphone screens and camera flashes filled the space as Pacquiao crooned "Lahing Pinoy," which also served as his entrance song for his fight with Hatton:

"Sumigaw ang pinoy -- HOY!!

Ang lahat ng pinoy -- HOY!!

Ang lahi ng pinoy sa mundo

Pilipino"

Fans sang the song, which celebrates Filipino pride, along with their icon.

"We just recorded that before the fight," Pacquiao said, addressing the mostly Filipino crowd. "Next time I'm going to make an English song for everyone."

Pacquiao's global reach isn't limited to jabs and punches. His performance Monday night hinted at stardom outside the ring; in the Philippines, he's already previously released two songs. And he wouldn't be the first boxing powerhouse to venture into entertainment.

Sugar Ray Robinson unsuccessfully attempted a career as an entertainer after his boxing career ended. Two-time world heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman, now a successful businessman perhaps best known for the George Foreman brand grills, briefly starred in his own sitcom on ABC, "George." And, in 2000, Oscar de la Hoya released a self-titled Latin pop album that was nominated for a Grammy.

If the roar of Pacquiao's fans during his performance is any indication, there are plenty of people who would flock to buy a future album release.

"Not only is he a good athlete, but he's a great entertainer," said Robert Lyons, 51, a fan from Rancho Palos Verdes. "He has a way of capturing the hearts of everyone. It's great to see . . . and it's now great to listen."

Listen they did. Shortly after midnight, Apple from the Black Eyed Peas got behind the DJ booth and, as 1 a.m. neared, Pacquiao joined him onstage for another round of vocal bobbing and weaving. During the half-hour set, he performed the song he's most famous for, "Para Sa Iyo," and three other songs from an album scheduled to be released in the Philippines before the end of the year.

The crowd was his.

Victorious in the ring. Now, at least for one night, victorious on the stage.
